In short

What do construction marketing services include?

Construction marketing services help UK contractors win bigger work from clients, frameworks and main contractors. Done properly they cover positioning, prequalification and credentials presented clearly, a website that passes procurement checks, case studies and bid content that score, LinkedIn visibility for directors, and a CRM that tracks every tender and relationship.

Construction marketing is not about lead volume. Buyers research you before they invite you to tender, check your credentials before they let you bid, and shortlist firms whose evidence stands up. Good construction marketing services make sure that evidence exists and is easy to find: a clear reason to choose you, current certifications, project case studies written for evaluators, and directors who are visible to the people who award work. Underneath, a CRM keeps every tender, framework date and relationship in one pipeline. This page covers what full-service construction marketing should include, how it differs for main contractors and subcontractors, what it costs and how to choose an agency, then sets out our own Preferred Contractor Programme and its price.

The situation

Winning more work is making the business harder to run.

So you face two problems at once. Competitors with weaker work win contracts because they look more credible online, and the work you do win lands on a business that is not set up to handle it. You need both: a brand that wins the work, and the connected systems to deliver it without the wheels coming off.

  • Opportunities, tenders and relationships tracked in heads, spreadsheets and inboxes
  • Nothing joined up, so leads and follow-ups slip through
  • More work coming in just means more chaos to manage
  • A website that looks like every other contractor's
  • Thin case studies, and none of the ESG content procurement now expects
  • The MD invisible on LinkedIn while weaker competitors look more credible

The services

What full-service construction marketing should include.

Built in the right order, these pieces become one system that gets you shortlisted. Use the list to judge any agency, including us.

Strategy and positioning

A clear, evidenced answer to why a buyer should choose you, and a decision on which clients, frameworks and main contractors are worth pursuing. Everything else points the same way once this is settled. PKB Civils started here, with a strategy workshop in October 2024.

Credentials buyers can verify

Your Common Assessment Standard certification, SSIP scheme, ISO certifications and insurances, kept current and listed where a procurement team looks. If they can't confirm you quickly, they move on.

A website built for procurement

Sector pages, project case studies, ESG and social value content, policies and a credentials page. By the time you are invited to tender, the buyer has usually looked you up, so the site is part of the reference.

Case studies and bid content

Project case studies written for evaluators, and a bid library of method statements, CVs, policies and standard answers your team reuses. Our construction tender marketing guide goes through both step by step.

Visibility with decision-makers

LinkedIn authority for your directors, activity through the trade bodies your clients belong to, and SEO for construction and targeted ads so researching buyers find you.

A pipeline that doesn't live in one head

A CRM and opportunity tracker for every tender, framework refresh date, certification renewal and relationship, so business development keeps going when the directors are busy on delivery.

For the thinking behind each piece, from trade bodies to frameworks, read our guide to marketing for construction.

Main contractors and subcontractors

Marketing for main contractors and subcontractors.

The buyer changes, so the marketing changes. Plenty of firms work both ways and need both playbooks.

Main contractors Subcontractors
Who buys Clients: public bodies, developers, housing associations, utilities Main contractors' supply chain, commercial and procurement teams
Who influences Client-side consultants, project managers and framework managers Site and project managers who recommend who they trust
How work is won Frameworks, public and private tenders, repeat clients Approved supplier lists, invitations to price packages, repeat relationships
What they check Prequalification, financial standing, project-scale case studies, social value and ESG evidence Prequalification, health and safety record, references from site teams, reliability
Marketing that matters Sector pages, leadership visibility, a deep bid library Capability statements, LinkedIn visibility with supply chain managers, case studies that name the main contractor (with permission)

If you are a main contractor

Your marketing has to make the organisation look like a safe pair of hands for a large scheme. That means the depth of the team, delivered projects in the client's sector, social value you can evidence and the answers a client's consultant will ask for, all findable before the tender opens.

If you are a subcontractor

Your marketing has to make you easy to recommend. When a main contractor's supply chain team asks who to invite, the site manager who liked working with you needs to find your name, credentials and a relevant project in two minutes. Getting onto approved supplier lists, and staying visible to those teams between packages, matters more than any advert.

The cost

What construction marketing services cost.

Price moves with scope, sector knowledge and how much the agency does for you. These are typical UK bands, not quotes.

  • A freelancer running one channel: usually a few hundred pounds a month. Fine for a single job, with gaps between skills.
  • A generalist agency retainer: typically £1,000 to £3,000 a month. You often pay for their learning curve on procurement and prequalification.
  • A specialist construction partnership joining up strategy, website, LinkedIn, case studies, ads and CRM: usually from around £1,500 a month, plus ad spend.

Ad spend sits on top of any fee and is paid straight to Google or LinkedIn. For construction clients we usually recommend £1,000 to £2,000 a month, split according to the contracts you are targeting.

If you are not ready for a retainer, a marketing strategy session is a focused place to start: £1,995 + VAT for a half day or £3,495 + VAT for a full day, with a costed plan afterwards. Our full Preferred Contractor Programme is £2,500 + VAT a month, and everything it includes is set out further down this page. Every price we publish is on our pricing page.

Judge any of these on what they win, not the monthly figure: shortlists, tenders won and revenue you can attribute. There is a fuller breakdown in marketing agency costs for construction companies.

How to choose

How to choose a construction marketing agency.

There is no official league table of construction marketing agencies. These are the questions that separate the useful ones, whoever you are talking to.

We have compared eight of the top UK construction marketing agencies using only what each one publishes. Whoever you speak to, ask:

  • Can they show a construction or civils client with real numbers? Logos are not proof. Ask for a case study and a client you can phone.
  • Do they understand prequalification and procurement? If the pitch is a local-trade lead campaign, they have misread how your work is won.
  • What will they report on? Shortlists, tenders won and attributed revenue, not clicks and impressions.
  • Who owns the website, content and data if you leave? It should be you.
  • Is the price published or in writing, including ad spend and contract length?
  • Will they work with your in-house team? Many contractors already have a marketing manager. A good agency adds strategy and specialist skills rather than replacing them.

We are probably not the right fit if you only need one channel handled, if you cannot commit to a 12-month minimum term (with a six month break clause tied to specific deliverables), or if your prequalification is not in place yet. Sort the Common Assessment Standard first and marketing has something to build on. If you are weighing up a hire instead, read in-house marketer vs construction marketing agency.

What we do

The Preferred Contractor Programme.

The Preferred Contractor Programme is our construction marketing service for civils and construction firms. It builds the brand, positioning and case-study evidence that get you onto shortlists and preferred contractor lists, and the connected systems that keep the business organised as the work grows.

It does two jobs at once, because winning the work and handling the work are two different problems.

Growth without the chaos

As a construction business grows, opportunities pile up faster than the systems to manage them. Tenders live in one person’s inbox, relationships in another’s head, and follow-ups in a spreadsheet nobody updates. Win more work and it gets worse, not better.

So the programme builds the connected back end first: a proper CRM and opportunity tracker where every tender, prospect and relationship sits in one pipeline, with automated follow-up so nothing goes cold. It pairs with our AI tools and automation to take even more admin off the team.

The brand that wins the work

We start with marketing strategy, a strategy day to set your positioning, your ideal client and your message, then deliver it through marketing implementation:

  • A website built for modern procurement, with sector pages, case studies, ESG and sustainability content and proper project storytelling, backed by SEO.
  • A CEO and MD LinkedIn authority programme that puts your leadership in front of the people who influence construction decisions.
  • A case-study programme that turns your best projects into the evidence procurement teams actually want to read.
  • A professionally produced 2-minute company film, included in the 12-month minimum term, which has a six month break clause tied to specific deliverables.
  • Targeted Google and LinkedIn advertising to reach decision-makers while they are researching contractors.

The aim is simple: to make you the preferred choice, the contractor that gets shortlisted for the tenders and contracts you actually want. If you run a local trade rather than a civils or construction firm, the Booked Solid System is built for you.

The proof

How PKB Civils moved from founder-led sales to a marketing-driven pipeline

PKB Civils is a civil engineering contractor delivering groundworks, drainage and infrastructure projects across the region. They came to us wanting marketing to do some of the heavy lifting: to build a brand presence that would attract opportunities, not just rely on the directors' networks. We started with a strategy day, then built the brand and the pipeline. Marketing now generates qualified opportunities, so the directors focus on delivery and relationships.

In their words

“Steve conducted a Marketing Strategy Workshop with us in October 2024, which has helped bring clarity to the marketing of our business in 2025. Steve's approach really helped us get more strategic with our marketing, and shortly after the workshop, we received a marketing strategy and plan that has given us direction for 2025. Steve has been working with our Marketing Manager to help execute the strategy and plan, and we're already starting to see early results with our Google search rankings improving and bringing us qualified leads. We're excited to continue working together as we build a brand that grows with the business.”

Ready to build your version of the Preferred Contractor Programme?

£2,500 + VATper month · 12-month minimum term with a six month break clause tied to specific deliverables

The Preferred Contractor Programme is £2,500 + VAT a month on a 12-month minimum term, because most of the work, including the website build and the company film, happens up front and in the first six months. There is a six month break clause tied to specific deliverables. Book a call and we will give you an honest read on your current positioning and show you what a tailored programme could look like: a 30-minute growth call, no obligation and no hard sell. If better positioning and tighter systems win you just one extra contract this year, the investment pays for itself many times over.

  • A strategy day to set positioning, ideal client and messaging
  • A website built for modern procurement, with ESG and project storytelling
  • A CEO and MD LinkedIn authority programme
  • A case-study engine that turns projects into evidence
  • A connected CRM and opportunity tracker for every tender
  • Targeted Google and LinkedIn advertising
  • A professionally produced 2-minute company film (12-month minimum term)

FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

What do construction marketing services include?

Done properly, they cover the whole route to a contract: strategy on which clients and frameworks to pursue, prequalification and credentials presented clearly, a website that passes procurement checks, case studies and bid content that score, LinkedIn visibility for directors, and a CRM that tracks every tender and renewal. Anything that only promises leads or traffic has misread how construction work is won.

How do we choose a full-service marketing agency for construction?

Ask for a construction or civils client with real numbers, not logos. Check they understand prequalification and procurement rather than selling a local-trade lead campaign. Agree reporting on shortlists, tenders won and attributed revenue. Confirm you own your website, content and data, and get the price, ad spend and contract length in writing so you can compare like for like.

Is marketing different for main contractors and subcontractors?

Yes, because the buyer is different. Main contractors sell to clients and framework buyers, so they need project-scale case studies, social value evidence and a deep bid library. Subcontractors sell to main contractors' supply chain teams, so they need to be on approved supplier lists, easy to verify and easy for site managers to recommend. Many firms need both playbooks.

We've got an in-house marketing person. Why would we need you?

We work alongside internal teams, not instead of them. At PKB, their marketing manager handles day-to-day execution while we provide strategic direction, specialist skills like video, LinkedIn and CRM, and accountability. We make your internal resource more effective, not redundant.

Our work speaks for itself. Do we really need to do all this?

Your work is excellent, but procurement teams cannot see it. They see your website, your LinkedIn and your case studies. If those do not reflect your quality, you lose opportunities to competitors who simply present themselves better. The best contractors are rarely the best marketers, and that is where we come in.

Why is there a 12-month minimum term?

Because most of the work happens up front and in the first six months: the procurement-ready website and the company film are built early, then SEO, your LinkedIn presence and case studies build month on month. We include the company film in the 12-month term because it only makes sense as part of a complete brand build, not as a standalone asset. There is a six month break clause tied to specific deliverables.

What is the ad spend on top?

We usually recommend £1,000 to £2,000 a month for construction clients, split between Google and LinkedIn depending on your target contracts. We will give you a specific figure on the call, based on your sector, geography and goals.

How is this different from other marketing agencies?

We only work with construction and trades businesses. We understand procurement, ESG requirements, and what it takes to get on preferred-contractor lists. And we start with strategy, not just tactics. The PKB results came from getting the foundations right first, then executing.

We are already winning more work than we can handle. Will this make that worse?

No, it is built to fix exactly that. Before we turn up the demand, we connect the back end: a proper CRM and opportunity tracker where every tender, lead and relationship sits in one pipeline, with automated follow-up. So the extra opportunities are handled and stay organised, rather than adding to the chaos.
